SUPPORT ISLAND BASE

In a heartwarming display of creativity and collaboration, our NEXT GEN September 2024 group from Mangere embarked on an exciting journey to write and record their very own rap song, with a little help from the one and only Sam V (straight after cleaning up 3x at the Pacific Music Awards) as their lyric writing/music performance mentor.

After a group discussion on how they were aware of and concerned about bullying in school – they decided to write a rap song about the perils of bullying.

This fun experience not only allowed the kids to showcase their talents but also taught them valuable life lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and the power of music to share an important message. The result was a catchy, original rap song called “Don’t Be A Bully”.

They decided to call themselves Pasifika Base 5 and all five contributed to the song and the video.

Pasifika Base 5 are : Ivan, Anur,  Markayla, Nia & Masei .

Their mentor Sam V was very happy with the resulting song and he even threw down some of his own backing vocals on the chorus!

Big thanks to EDY on the beats and the amazing Niu FM for playing the song for the first time live on air as well as having Pacifica Base 5 & Sam V up on the station for a fun interview where the kids jokingly argued over who came up with the initial idea for the song!

Tune into Island Base FM to hear the song and other original work by our local artists, emerging and established.
